The Hennessey Public Library is seeking to hire a Circulation Librarian.

This person will primarily deliver outstanding library service by:

  • Answering requests for information
  • Promoting reading and helping patrons find materials
  • Providing instruction and assistance with computers and other library services
  • Maintaining a clean and welcoming library environment

Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting patrons with inter-library loan services
  • Reshelving returned items such as books and filing DVDs before returning cases to the shelf
  • Cataloguing library materials in accordance with established local procedures
  • Processing materials for the collection, including typing spine labels, applying label covers, barcodes, accession numbers and other internal documentation, and fitting covering materials to books and book jackets
  • Assisting the library director in weeding of the library collection by utilizing a knowledge of books and the needs of the community, intellectual worth, currency, circulation, and probable usefulness of a book, and suggesting discard of any volume that is obsolete and deemed a liability rather than an asset
  • Anticipating and recommending library materials that will help keep a current and comprehensive collection
  • Preserving and indexing historical documents and memorabilia
  • Helping maintain the history center and assisting with related promotion and programming
  • Performing clerical duties, typing, scanning, emailing, filing, labeling and more
  • Assisting the children’s librarian in children’s programming
  • Assisting the library director and other library staff with other duties as needed

Qualifications required:

  • Experience with collection development and historical preservation
  • Enthusiastic team player
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and have strong math skills
  • Has a good grasp on technology, able to navigate and troubleshoot the Internet, computers, tablets, and smartphones
  • Willingness to attend continuing education and library workshops
  • Must live within 30-mile radius of Hennessey
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Have no misdemeanors or felonies

Preferred but not required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in library science or history
  • Level I certification from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Benefits offered:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with one hour lunch (there will be an occasional night or weekend for special library events)
