The Hennessey Public Library is seeking to hire a Children’s Librarian.

This person will organize and implement the child and youth services of the library, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinating, promoting, and executing programming with the library director for the 9-week summer reading program
  • Preparing and presenting weekly storytimes on site and/or in the library for area elementary school preschoolers, daycares, and HeadStart
  • Hosting teen activities in the library throughout the year and advocating for teen volunteers
  • Creating and spearheading thematic child and youth programming and activities as approved by the library director
  • Instructing youth on how to use equipment such as the computers or tablets
  • Maintaining, cataloging, shelving, and weeding the children’s, middle school, and teen collections under the supervision of the library director
  • Regularly taking inventory of the youth collections and recommending book orders to the library director
  • Anticipating needs for child and youth services and proposing them to the library director
  • Performing circulation duties and assisting patrons
  • Assisting the library director and other library staff with other duties as needed

Qualifications required:

  • Experience working with children, in either a daycare, school, library, or church setting
  • Experience in developing, coordinating, and implementing children’s programming
  • Enthusiastic team player
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram
  • Has a good grasp on technology, able to navigate and troubleshoot the Internet, computers, tablets, and smartphones
  • Willingness to attend continuing education and library workshops
  • Must live within 30-mile radius of Hennessey
  • Have a valid driver’s license and working vehicle
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Have no misdemeanors or felonies

Preferred but not required:

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)

Benefits offered:

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with one hour lunch (there will be an occasional night or weekend for special library events)
