Because of the special nature of the hardware and software, the Handicapped Access Computer (HAC) provided by Ability Resources is specifically provided to handicapped patrons over the age of 8 years, juvenile and adult. In the absence of a disabled patron and only if no other computer is available, adults 18 years of age and older may have access to the HAC and will be governed by the Internet Usage Policy of the library, including time limits.

POLICY STATEMENT:  Handicapped patrons 8 years of  age and older will be given first access to the HAC.When a handicapped patron requests access to the Internet, should the computer be in use by a non-handicapped adult 18 years or older, the adult will move to an unocuppied computer station or sign the waiting list for a non-handicapped accessible unit.  Patrons under the age of 18 will not be allowed to use the HAC unless they have a disability.  Disabled patrons under the age of 8 will be required to have a parent with them when they use the HAC.

POLICY STATEMENT:  Both physical and developmental disabilities will be considered handicaps for the purpose of  HAC access.

POLICY STATEMENT:  The 30 minute time limit will apply only if a handicapped patron is awaiting access to the computer.  Otherwise, a handicapped patron may use the HAC until another disabled patron wishes access.  The 30 minute time limit will not apply when a non-handicapped adult is waiting for computer access.
