The Library Community

Friends of the Hennessey Library (FOL) is a service group that supports the mission of the Hennessey Public Library with volunteers and fund raising activities.

Volunteering Is Frightfully Fun!

Every year FOL members find creative ways to involve themselves in library activiites.

The Haunted Library is a favorite for young and old alike. Some FOL members solicit candy donations from the community; others come in costume and haunt the stacks.

Other dress-up (or dressed down!) opportunites come with Preschool Storytime (Mother Goose has made her appearance along with the peddlar from Hats for Sale), Summer Reading (Dr. Michael and his traveling medicine show was a real hit!), and the Library Mystery Evening created especially for the Hennessey Public Library and FOL.

Helen and her legendary ciderService Feeds the Soul...

Helen's Legendary Cider and a table warm with cookies from FOL ovens--it doesn't get any better than this! Special events are special times for FOL members who greet and serve and share the warmth.

Our cookie bakers are the best and provide for us year-round, bringing smiles through the crumbs for well-fed participants in Pre-school Storytime, Summer Reading Club, Teen Volunteer Camp,after-school programs, book club meetings, and other library activities. FOL has also provided meals for visiting speakers, researchers, library workshop particants, and special guests. Hennessey hospitality is our forte.

Friends Fund the Extras

What is more fun than winning an award for something you love to do? Friends provide the funds for Summer Reading Camp T-shirts and reading incentives. Friends provide funds for professional story-tellers, magicians, clowns, and other performers that enrich the library experience for youngsters at no cost to them.

Book Hunt Bunnies to Pizza...

Friends fund pizza parties for 'Tween Team Volunteers and purchase the prizes for reading contest winners.
All the little extras that add up to a big difference in what the library can offer to youngsters come from our Friends.
